What is Designated quasi-drug?

banner of quasi-drug.

We manufacture and sell designated quasi-drugs as well as pharmaceuticals.
Those who are not familiar with pharmaceuticals may find it difficult to understand the difference between them.
Therefore, I would like to explain the difference between pharmaceuticals and designated quasi-drugs again here.

Pharmaceuticals

The main purposes of pharmaceuticals are “diagnosis, treatment, and prevention”.
There are three types of pharmaceuticals.

  • Ethical pharmaceutical
  • Drugs requiring special instructions
  • Drug sold without a prescription

Ethical pharmaceutical

It is a prescription drug.
A prescription from a physician is required to purchase.

Drugs requiring special instructions

Drugs that were originally prescription drugs.
It can only be purchased directly from pharmacists at pharmacies and drugstores where pharmacists work.

Drug sold without a prescription

It is available at pharmacies and pharmacy.
Recently, they are also readily available by online shopping.
These drugs are the easiest to purchase among pharmaceuticals,
They are further classified into three types.

  • Category-1 OTC (over the counter) drug
It can only be purchased directly from the pharmacist at a pharmacy or drugstore where the pharmacist works.
The product is displayed in a place where the purchaser cannot directly reach it, and the pharmacist will always provide an explanation at the time of purchase.
  • Category-2 OTC (over the counter) drug
Stores with a pharmacist or registered sales representative may sell the product.
Drugs with a moderate risk of side effects.
  • ・Category-3 OTC (over the counter) drug
This drug has a low risk of side effects.

Quasi-drugs

The purpose of quasi-drugs is primarily “prevention and hygiene”.

Designated quasi-drug

Some products originally classified as pharmaceuticals have been moved to designated quasi-drugs through deregulation.
Designated quasi-drugs do not require a prescription or explanation from a pharmacist, and can be easily purchased at convenience stores and supermarkets.
